OUTRUNNER CONVEYOR DRIVE

Conveyor Drive with Top Running Chain

Outrunner Drives are used in continuous loop systems, Outrunner Spirals and Spiral 2.0 conveyors. They are placed in the horizontal curves of conveyors. Outrunner Drives are designed with top running chain only, eliminating the need for Span Tech’s standard drive and idler units. 

The conveyor chain is driven with sprockets that are powered by the gearmotor located below the conveyor running surface. It includes a unique guarded protection system which shuts down power when debris or a broken side link tries to enter the sprocket.

Rules of thumb

Includes follower sprocket mechanism that will stop the drive if it is “tripped”. This is a safety mechanism to prevent things from getting pulled into the drive.

Outrunner drives power the conveyor chain from the side of the chain instead of chain wrapped around sprockets inside the conveyor.

Outrunner drives must be placed on an outside curve only. They are not suitable for straight sections or inside curves.

Up to 2 Outrunner drives can be used on a single conveyor using a single VFD. More than 2 Outrunner drives require special controls.

Can be configured to drive only the top chain (this is useful in making endless loop conveyors) or the top and bottom chain in a standard conveyor with idlers on each end.
